Senior Civil Lawyer

This senior legal position offers the opportunity to lead complex civil litigation, provide strategic legal advice, and contribute to the enforcement of company and insolvency legislation across the United Kingdom. Working alongside investigators, senior government officials, and external legal providers, you will play a key role in protecting the public interest while helping maintain confidence in UK insolvency and corporate governance frameworks. The Insolvency Service is a UK Government agency responsible for administering insolvency proceedings, investigating financial misconduct, enforcing company legislation, and supporting individuals and businesses experiencing financial difficulty. About Insolvency Service

The Insolvency Service is looking for an experienced Senior Civil Lawyer (Grade 6) to join its Legal Services team within the Enforcement Group.

What you'll do

• Lead a portfolio of complex civil litigation and enforcement cases.
• Manage litigation from investigation through court proceedings.
• Provide authoritative legal advice on investigations and enforcement actions.
• Conduct litigation efficiently while instructing Counsel and external solicitors where appropriate.
• Advise on statutory investigations and director disqualification matters.
• Support public interest winding-up proceedings.
• Develop effective enforcement strategies across the Agency.
• Work closely with investigators, examination teams, and senior stakeholders.
• Undertake advocacy where required.
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and support to Grade 7 Civil Lawyers.
• Contribute to wider Legal Services strategy and Government Legal Profession initiatives.
• Attend leadership meetings and travel to regional offices when required.
